Affiliate Marketing Update. #2

This past weekend I had a death in the family, so I went back to my home town.
The girlfriend and I checked into the Ramada Inn that night because there were extremely too many people at my parent’s house and after the drive I desperately needed a nap.
To make a long story short it was around 2:00 in the morning and of course I couldn’t sleep, (I’m normally a night owl). I decided to build out some keywords and run my test. I couldn’t hold out any longer. I used various music related sites and overture’s online keyword tool to come up with a small list of artists names and popular song titles. I set my daily budget for $50.00 and released my Campaign to the world. It was like receiving a new set of Lego’s for Christmas. I could not leave it alone, I must have refreshed my account like a hundred times to view the changes/impressions. After about 15 minutes I pulled myself from the laptop, lucky there was actually something worth watching on TV, Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle, it was on TBS but still funny. Ok after about 2 commercials I went back to the laptop, and DUDE! I had gone through $49.00, to be exact $49.01. I paused everything; it was time to investigate what was going on.
Well all of my traffic came from MySpace.com. If I would have taken the time to read up on all the features and capabilities that Adwords had I would have notice the “Content network” and “Search network” options. With this two options selected this allowed my ads to show up on Google’s search partners sites and on Google’s content network.

Lesson learn! Next time I will set aside some time to read the tutorials. This first test run was a total rush, and I can see how SEM could be addictive.
My overall stats included:
49 Clicks - 13,583 Impressions for a 0.36% CTR
I spent $49.01 and made $14.25
