Mobile Search Engine Optimization - Mobile SEO
Optimization tactics for Mobile search is not so much different from traditional site optimization tactics. If anything it pushes you to develop and deliver much cleaner content to your users.
Your content should be direct and focused. This is one of those rare times where less content can be considered better. Gaining search engine visibility is only half the battle, the other half is making sure the users are able to view your site. You have to consider your users will more then likely be on the move and need to retrieve information quickly. Unnecessary content will cause the page to load slower, and Mobile internet access rates can be expensive. So keep it simple
A couple of Tid Bits to consider when developing your mobile site
Bits
- XHTML MP - DreamWeaver has a built in option to add “XHTML Mobile” Doc Types. HTML is cindered an older language and some hand held devices do not support, or better yet have a hard time rendering some of the older HTML tags
- Use CSS. DIV, P, and LI tags - These tags are more favorable for hand held devices.
- Embedded CSS. - Try to avoid making multiple trips to the server, remember we are building for a mobile device so server side includes will actually cause your page to load slower.
- Text navigation, theres a good chance that users will be scrolling up and down. Placing your navigation in these areas is preferred over side or image navigation.
- Test and validate your site. There are several simulators and validators that will allow you to check for coding errors.
